Donny Osmond Faces Lawsuit After Concert Incident in Las Vegas

A night meant for music, nostalgia, and family-friendly entertainment has taken a serious turn, as a concertgoer files a lawsuit against veteran performer Donny Osmond and the venue hosting his Las Vegas residency.

The Incident

According to court documents, Joanne Julkowski, an Illinois resident, alleges she was struck by a large inflatable, light-up ball during a performance in February 2024 at Harrah’s Las Vegas. The prop, reportedly launched into the audience as part of the show’s interactive elements, became the center of a legal dispute now unfolding in Nevada.

Julkowski filed her lawsuit on February 10 in Clark County District Court, naming Osmond, his production company Donny Osmond Concerts, and the venue as defendants.

Allegations of Negligence

The lawsuit claims that both the performer’s production team and the venue were negligent in their “hiring, training, retention, and supervision” of employees. It further alleges that proper safety precautions were not taken when incorporating large props into a crowded concert environment.

Specifically, the filing argues that Harrah’s Las Vegas “breached its duty of care” by allowing oversized illuminated balls to be thrown or propelled into a dimly lit audience without adequate safeguards.

Additionally, the suit claims there were no sufficient warnings provided to attendees regarding the use of such props.

Serious Injuries Claimed

Julkowski alleges that the incident resulted in significant physical harm. According to the complaint, she suffered a traumatic retinal injury and retinal detachment in her right eye, requiring surgery and leading to ongoing visual impairment.

The lawsuit also cites concussion-related injuries, including trauma to her head and neck, which have required extensive medical treatment and may necessitate further care in the future.

Emotional and Financial Impact

Beyond physical injuries, Julkowski is seeking $15,000 in damages for what she describes as severe emotional distress, including psychological trauma, anxiety, fear, post-traumatic stress, and loss of enjoyment of life.

The suit also requests additional compensation, including punitive damages, lost wages, and attorney’s fees.

Her attorney, Lindsay Roginski, emphasized the seriousness of the case in a statement:

“Ms. Julkowski went to the Donny Osmond show expecting a fun, family-friendly experience and instead left with serious, life-altering injuries that continue to affect her daily life. It is unacceptable for a venue and a performer to place entertainment value over the safety of their patrons.”

Safety in Live Entertainment Under Scrutiny

The case raises broader questions about audience safety at live entertainment events, particularly as shows increasingly incorporate interactive elements to engage fans.

While tossing props into crowds has long been a staple of concerts and stage performances, this lawsuit highlights the potential risks when such elements are not carefully managed.

As of now, neither Donny Osmond nor representatives for Harrah’s Las Vegas have publicly responded to the claims.

What Comes Next

The case will proceed through the Nevada court system, where the claims of negligence and liability will be examined in detail.

For fans, the incident serves as a sobering reminder that even the most joyful entertainment experiences must be balanced with safety — ensuring that the magic of live performance never comes at the cost of audience well-being.
