Story: Bee Gees’ Robin Gibb escapes death

After a week in a coma and on the brink of death, the former member of the famous boy band recovered his health, woke up and was able to talk to those around him.

Robin Gibb fell into a coma a week ago and doctors said he had only a 10% chance of survival. However, on April 23, the former Bee Gees member woke up to the joy of his relatives. A doctor treating him said: “Robin is awake, laughing and really happy.”

The 62-year-old singer has been suffering from colon cancer and pneumonia for the past few years. His body has become increasingly thin and weak, but Robin is still a workaholic, refusing to rest despite the dissuasion of his family and friends.

When Robin Gibb lay in a coma in hospital last week, his family, including Barry (the eldest of the Bee Gees), gathered around him and sang the band’s hits. It seems that the strength of his spirit pushed Robin Gibb to escape the “grim reaper” and wake up.

In late 2003, Maurice Gibb – Robin’s twin brother and also a member of the Bee Gees – died at the age of 53 from intestinal disease. After Maurice’s death, the Bee Gees disbanded.

The Bee Gees were an Australian-British family band that was popular in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. The group consisted of three members: Barry (the eldest) and twins Robin and Maurice. The Bee Gees have sold over 200 million records worldwide and are famous for their romantic love songs such as Too Much Heaven, I Started A Joke and especially How Deep Is Your Love.

Robin Gibb was later placed in intensive care at a hospital in London, England.
